Local News in Brief : Seven Arrested at Party

Share

Seven party goers were arrested outside the Malibu home of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling, where a giant Fourth of July celebration was being held.

Six teen-age boys and a man were arrested either for inciting a riot or assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer after party goers allegedly lobbed fireworks at deputies breaking up a group of 1,000 at Sterling’s home in the exclusive Malibu Colony.

Deputies arrived in response to neighbors’ complaints about the Monday night party, which apparently was open to the public, Deputy Bill Wehner said. Guests were “consuming alcohol, which was freely flowing,” Wehner said.

No injuries were reported.

Most of the guests were young people who spilled onto neighboring property, authorities said.

A spokesman for Sterling, Michael Selsman, said his boss threw a hot-dogs-and-soda party for about 25 high school classmates of his daughter, and that gathering ended at 9:30 p.m. “The public beach was jammed,” said Selsman, vice president of Sterling’s real estate investment firm. “If there was a disturbance it had nothing to do with Sterling.”
