A blaze believed to have been started by fireworks caused $150,000 damage to a La Palma home Tuesday evening, fire officials said Wednesday.

It took 30 firefighters about 17 minutes to contain the blaze, Orange County Fire Department Capt. Patrick McIntosh said.

The fire apparently began about 7:20 p.m. on the wood shake-shingle roof of the one-story home in the 5500 block of Conifer Drive. At one point, the entire roof was engulfed in flames and threatened nearby homes, McIntosh said.

“Fortunately, we were able to get on it quickly,” he said. “If the house didn’t have a wood shake-shingle roof, there probably wouldn’t have been a fire.”

Fire investigators attributed the cause to fireworks, but no suspects have been apprehended, McIntosh said.
