The former chief attorney of the U.S. Postal Service for the Western region was charged with four counts of battery or abusive sexual contact against female employees. Lyman Johnston, 62, of Cupertino, a 21-year postal employee, was indicted by a federal grand jury on four charges, two of them felonies, U.S. Atty. Joseph Russoniello said. All of the incidents took place at the regional headquarters in San Bruno, the grand jury said. Johnston is accused of pushing a woman onto the couch of his office in June, 1985, and trying to kiss her, fondle her breasts and reach under her skirt. Johnston was retired in April.
