Two soul-singing DeBarge family members have been indicted on charges that they conspired with five people to bring more than two pounds of cocaine to Grand Rapids, Mich. Jonathan (Chico) DeBarge, 22, of Grand Rapids, was held Friday in the Kent County Jail, pending a hearing to determine whether he should remain in custody until trial. An arrest warrant was issued for Robert (Bobby) DeBarge, 32, of Los Angeles, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael MacDonald. Among the others named in the indictment was Michael Jamison, 26, of Grand Rapids, whom, MacDonald said, on June 24 gave $15,000 to a man working as an informant for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration to buy a kilogram of cocaine. The informer left with Chico DeBarge the following day for Los Angeles where Jamison wired another $2,000 to them, the indictment states. Robert DeBarge allegedly picked up the money, went to a nightclub and returned a short time later with the cocaine, the indictment states. Each faces a possible life prison term if convicted on the conspiracy charges.
