Forrest Sawyer, the former “CBS Morning News” anchor who with Paul Zahn began co-anchoring ABC’s “World News This Morning” today, says he tried to “wade through” two recent books that had been given him. Each was about the travails of CBS News over the past few years. Alas, he didn’t make it all the way through. With CBS News from 1985 to 1987, Sawyer doesn’t doubt that the two tomes on his old employer are accurate, he says: “It’s just that having been there . . . I didn’t know if I wanted to walk through all that ground again.”
