Max Roach, who composed the jazz score for “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the San Diego Repertory Theatre last October, will be back at the Rep as early as next summer, thanks to a $22,500 grant from the Meet the Composer/Readers Digest Community Program. Roach has not announced the subject of his new composition. The grant money, which goes entirely to Roach, is part of a national program in partnership with the Lila Wallace-Readers Digest Fund and the National Endowment for the Arts, awarded jointly to the San Diego Repertory Theatre and the Berkeley Repertory Theatre. The Berkeley Repertory Theatre will also feature Roach’s composition on its program next year--possibly in the fall.
