Local News in Brief : Hospital Grant OKd

The South Bay Hospital District, which finances public health programs in Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and Manhattan Beach, has approved a $406,087 grant for the fifth and final year of a coordinated school health program conducted by Hospital Home Health Care in three school districts. The grant provides nurses and health aids and such services as health testing and screening, student counseling, health promotion, and teacher training.

In other action, the district board approved a 2-year, $40,000 grant to the Gratitude Retreat Foundation for rehabilitation of sober alcoholic men; a 1-year, $40,000 grant to the Salvation Army Meals on Wheels Program, which delivers hot meals to homebound people, and a 2-year, $43,000 grant to Richstone Family Center for parenting education and child abuse prevention training for preschool staff members. The district said that during the last four years, it has made $4.3-million in grants to 22 agencies.
