A 17-year-old mother was killed when she, her family and a friend were struck by a car as they stood on a street in Pacoima, Los Angeles police said Thursday.

The driver and a passenger in the car, which struck four people at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at El Dorado Avenue and Osborne Street, were arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, police said.

Sgt. John O’Toole said Anna Aguas of Glendale was standing on El Dorado next to a parked pickup truck with her 7-month-old son, Joseph Contreras; the boy’s father, Rolando Contreras, 19, and a friend, Arcelia Luna, 17, of Pacoima, when the accident occurred.

O’Toole said Armando Cienfuegos, 20, of Pacoima, drove around the corner from Osborne and his car crashed into the four bystanders. The pickup truck then swerved across the street and hit a block wall, O’Toole said.

Police said Aquas was killed immediately, her son suffered a fractured skull and Luna’s leg was seriously injured. The boy and Luna were taken to area hospitals where they were reported in stable condition. Rolando Contreras was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Neither Cienfeugos nor his passenger, Roberto Sanchez, 21, of Pacoima, was injured. Police said they arrested Cienfuegos and Sanchez after Cienfuegos told investigators that Sanchez had put his foot on the gas pedal while they were making the turn.
