Travelers Stuck at British Airports Face More Delays

Thousands of vacationers stranded at British airports today faced more long delays despite the end of a Greek air traffic controllers’ strike that caused a buildup of canceled flights earlier in the week.

At London’s Gatwick Airport, where more than 1,000 passengers spent their third consecutive night under blankets, only one of 25 flights scheduled to depart was on time, a spokesman said. Some planes had been delayed for 24 hours.

Managers at other British airports said threatened disruptive action by Spanish and French controllers will cause further flight chaos next week.

The Greek action caused delays in flights to other holiday destinations because the charter planes that should have been going to them were stuck in the wrong airports.
