Mozart Camerata Lists Repertory for Expanded 5-Offering Season

The Mozart Camerata, led by founding music director Ami Porat, has expanded its season from four to five offerings for 1988-89. Guest artists with the 4-year-old chamber orchestra will include violinists Kathleen Lenski and Sergiu Schwartz, violist Brian Denbow, cellist Nathaniel Rosen and pianist Nickoli Popov.

Dates and repertory for the concerts, to be held at Santa Ana High School Auditorium:

--Oct. 8, 8 p.m., “The Illustrious Quartet”: Dittersdorf’s Allegro; Johann Vanhal’s Sinfonia; Haydn’s Symphony No. 44 (“Traurer”), and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat with soloists Lenski and Denbow. --Nov. 13, 4 p.m., “Opera Masters’ Strings”: Mozart’s Serenade; Adagio from Tchaikovsky’s “Souvenir de Florence” (arranged by Porat); Rossini’s Sonata; Verdi’s Quartet (arranged by Porat), and Puccini’s “Crisantemi.”

--Jan. 22, 1989, 7 p.m., “Happy Birthday Mozart”: Overture to “The Impresario”; Violin Concerto No. 5 with soloist Schwartz, and the “Jupiter” Symphony.

--Mar. 11, 8 p.m., “Serenades for Strings”: Overture to Rossini’s “La Scala di seta”; Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 14 in E-flat with soloist Popov, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 in D.

--April 15, 8 p.m., “Season’s Finale”; J. C. Bach’s Sinfonia, Op. 6, No. 6; Mozart’s Symphony No. 33 in B-flat; Couperin’s “Pieces en concert” and Boccherini’s Cello Concerto, both with soloist Rosen.

Subscription tickets for all five concerts will cost $70. Tickets to single events will range from $16 (in advance) to $18 (at the door). Students and those over 62 may obtain a 25% discount.
