A light plane lost power on takeoff and narrowly missed a house before crashing Saturday near Agua Dulce Airport, injuring the pilot and his passenger, Los Angeles County firefighters said.
The single-engine Piper Cherokee Cruiser crashed shortly after noon in a grove of evergreens near Shady Lane Road and Sierra Highway, Fire Capt. Gary McPeak said.
The pilot, Stanley Roth, 44, and a male passenger climbed from the plane despite moderate injuries suffered in the crash, McPeak said.
The men were flown to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Valencia. A hospital spokeswoman said both men requested that no information be released on their conditions.
Roth had left Whiteman Air Park in Pacoima and landed at Agua Dulce Airport to pick up his passenger, who was unidentified.
The men told authorities they had just taken off for Barstow when the plane lost power and crashed, McPeak said.
