‘TV as Servant of Prejudice’

Share

One of the most forthright and honest presentations of the Israeli position, its country and its people was presented by Herzog.

The fact is that the minutest incidents (involving Israel) are blown way out of proportion by the press, when the most vicious crimes are taking place all around us by other countries.

How ironic it was that, after reading the beautiful article by Herzog, your editorial “Dangerous Deception” on the same page about a 17-year-old Arab boy being seized by Israeli security and charged with throwing firebombs, was blown way out of proportion! It stated, “If the security agents are in fact masquerading as newsman to carry out arrests or intelligence activities, then they are jeopardizing both the reputation and safety of all legitimate journalists--Israeli and foreigners alike--who are covering the West Bank.”

What about the firebombs that destroy innocent lives of Israeli men, women and children or the rocks that kill or maim for life? Are the reputations and safety of these dead Israelis less meaningful than the journalists who are living? Does any other country in the world allow the freedom of the press as does Israel?

Sorry, you made such a faux pas by putting the editorial on the same page with President Herzog.
