Paul Gomez, 23, of Costa Mesa was listed in fair condition Monday in Fountain Valley Regional Hospital & Medical Center, where he was taken Sunday afternoon after being stabbed repeatedly in the chest and shoulder, police said.

Everest Bullon, 31, of Newport Beach was in Costa Mesa Jail on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon, Costa Mesa Police Lt. Gary Webster said. His bail was set at $250,000.

Webster said Bullon went to the 600 block of West 18th Street Sunday afternoon, where he encountered Gomez.

“He allegedly pulled a knife on Gomez and stabbed him seven or eight times in the left shoulder and chest,” Webster said. “Several of the stab wounds penetrated deeply, with one puncturing Gomez’s lung.”

Witnesses saw the suspect leaving the scene in a red Porsche and gave a description of him to police, who spotted the car and a man fitting the description on the 1900 block of Harbor Boulevard. Bullon was arrested without incident.

“It is unknown at this time what the relationship is between (the victim and suspect) or what provoked the stabbing,” Webster said.
