Local News in Brief : Latest Writers Talks Fail

Share

Informal weekend talks between Hollywood producers and the striking Writers Guild of America produced no progress toward a settlement, representatives of both sides said.

Following a Monday afternoon meeting of the guild’s board, chief union negotiator Brian Walton told reporters that the weekend talks were “disappointing” but declined to provide details. One source close to the talks said the sides had discussed extending the proposed term of a new contract from four years to five years, or putting a cap on the guild’s demand for annual residuals for movie and TV shows sold abroad. But they did not find a formula to break the bargaining impasse as the strike entered its 20th week.

Spokesmen for both sides did not rule out further informal talks, but Walton said no such session was scheduled.
