Local News in Brief : Raiders Deal Sought

Share

U.S. District Judge Terry Hatter Jr. on Monday told attorneys for the Los Angeles Raiders and the National Football League that the jurist who presided over most of the Raiders-NFL lawsuit, U.S. Circuit Judge Harry Pregerson, wants to hold new discussions with the parties in an effort to reach a settlement.

With an earlier award of $34.6 million in damages, plus interest, to the Raiders now subject to further legal action and in considerable doubt, Hatter said at a hearing that it may be an opportune time to pursue a settlement.

Hatter, meanwhile, ordered the NFL to pay $607,000 in legal fees charged by the San Francisco law firm of one of the Raiders’ attorneys, Moses Lasky. But he deferred, until he gets more documentation, a request by former San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto and his associates, who were also attorneys for the team, for $8 million in NFL payments for their fees.
