A federal magistrate in Hyattsville, Md., ordered the release of some documents on the Pentagon corruption scandal but stayed his order for 10 days to allow an appeal. U.S. Magistrate James E. Kenkel gave a partial victory to the Washington Post, which had challenged the sealing of FBI affidavits and search warrants. Kenkel ordered the immediate release of the search warrants and a list of items obtained in three searches in Maryland. Kenkel granted a government request to keep sealed for 45 more days a series of affidavits that justified the search warrants. The three Maryland searches involved Victor D. Cohen, Richard W. Seelmeyer and William Sanda. Meanwhile, in Los Angeles, a federal judge released certain general information about searches in Southern California but will not rule until Friday on unsealing detailed documents on those searches.
