Local News in Brief : Fullerton : Vietnam Native to Head New Center at Cal State

Son Kim Vo, a Vietnamese native who has been a special consultant to the state Department of Social Services for the past four years, has been appointed new director of the Development Center at Cal State Fullerton.

Created last December, the center provides educational support programs and services to foreign-born students on the Fullerton campus. The university said the center’s goal also is to build “awareness in the campus community of cross-cultural and international issues.”

Vo, a resident of Garden Grove, received her bachelor’s degree at State University in Saigon, her master’s from Washington University in St. Louis and her doctorate at USC. She is fluent in English, French and Vietnamese.

Vo taught for five years in the School of Education at State University, Saigon. After coming to the United States in 1981, she served as a social worker in Orange County’s large Vietnamese community before joining the state Department of Social Services in 1984.
