The Atlanta Chamber of Commerce predicted that the Democratic National Convention would produce $60 million for the local economy--half of it in direct spending by visitors and another $30 million in rollover spending by local businesses and employees.

The chamber figured, for example, that each of the 35,000 visitors estimated to be here for the political gathering will have spent $300 on food and drink over five days and $86 each at retail stores--not counting T-shirts purchased on the street.
