2 Voices Against Use of Police Dogs

Share

I cannot believe what I read in . . . The Times. A man was attacked “over much of his body” by a police dog during a search for a car thief. Capt. Kenneth Powell said: “The officers won’t call the dog off until the person stops kicking and screaming.”

Well, good heavens, what person wouldn’t be kicking and screaming if attacked by a large dog? Isn’t it instinctive to protect oneself when physically attacked? I cannot imagine myself calmly allowing an angry animal to tear at my body. I’d be hysterical! Doesn’t it make more sense to call off the dog while guns are drawn? Who’s going to fight bullets? I’m sure Capt. Powell made the statement in defense of the officers, but it sure doesn’t make sense to me.
