Detroit Edison said Saturday that a small radioactive leak at its Fermi 2 nuclear plant had prompted a reduction of power as operators attempted to confirm the source of the leak and isolate it.

A spokesman said the leak had not endangered plant personnel or the public and was not expected to exceed allowable limits. He said it was off the main steam supply to an auxiliary turbine and that the condensed steam is going into a contained, isolated system in the primary containment building.
