A 23-year-old man suffering from a mental illness that limits his intelligence was still missing late Monday.

William Earl Davis Jr. of the 3700 block of National Avenue was reported missing Saturday by his sister, after he did not return home Friday night from a video arcade next door to his residence, according to police spokesman Bill Robinson.

Carolyn Huntsman, the missing man’s sister, said the family has been in San Diego for only a week and she is afraid because her brother does not have the mental capacity to remember where he lives or his phone number. “He just went into a rage Friday night because he wanted to be around other people, so I let him go right next door to the arcade,” she said.

Davis, who is black, was last seen wearing black, stone-washed jeans, a yellow, short-sleeved T-shirt and a blue denim jacket, according to Robinson. He was described by his sister as 6 feet tall, about 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. “He is dark-complexioned and has a two-inch scar under his left eye, and a scar around his left wrist,” she said.

Police have spread information on the missing man around city playgrounds because he is fond of playing basketball, according to Robinson. Davis is not considered dangerous, but needs medication that was prescribed by doctors at an Indiana mental institution where he lived for seven years, according to his sister. He had only been out of the institution for five weeks.

Robinson said anyone with information on the missing man can call police at 531-2000.
