The State : Ousted Teen Broke Curfew

A publicist for the Miss Teen USA pageant said the California entrant--Alison Jo Moreno, 16, of El Toro--was disqualified because of a curfew violation, but he declined to elaborate. The remark was made by publicist Les Schecter to a reporter for the Riverside Press-Enterprise before pageant organizers instituted a news blackout about the incident. Alison’s parents declined comment on their daughter’s disqualification. Alison was permitted to appear during the televised pageant Monday night in San Bernardino, but she was ineligible for competition. Entrants, selected in state competitions, are chaperoned while attending the pageant and must abide by the pageant’s rules of conduct, organizers said. The title of Miss Teen USA was awarded to Mindy Duncan, 16, of Newberg, Ore.
