Man Charged in Kidnap, Rape Case

A Glendale man was charged this week with 20 criminal counts for allegedly kidnaping an Eagle Rock woman and raping her.

Steven Beraha, 36, was charged Monday with one count each of false imprisonment and kidnap, seven counts of oral copulation, seven counts of rape, two counts of sodomy, one count of carrying a concealed weapon without a license and one count of carrying a loaded concealed weapon, police said.

Beraha was arrested July 20. However, the Police Department did not release further information until this week.

Police said a 23-year-old Eagle Rock woman told them that she met Beraha July 18 and that she arranged to meet him the next day.

According to police, the woman said that Beraha physically restrained her when she arrived at his east Chevy Chase apartment, put a gun to her head and repeatedly raped her.

The woman said she finally escaped from Beraha the next day when, still armed, he took her to a restaurant, police said. Police said she told them that she ran out a back exit of the restaurant and called police.
