** “Expanding Visions: An Introduction to the New Age.”

Teamwork. $39.95.

Unfortunately, the “introduction” comes via a scattered look at the recent Los Angeles Whole Life Expo--mostly short, unenlightening interviews with various attending new-age celebs (among them Timothy Leary and Barbara De Angelis) and lesser lights. Interspersed with commercials, the 58-minute tape features decent production values but a sketchy and poorly balanced presentation: After quickly skipping through subjects like crystals, nutrition and ecology, it devotes an inordinate amount of time to three “channelers.” This last segment includes interviews with the three in both their “normal” and channeling states, so it is of some value for a glimpse at this particular trend. However, novices to new age’s mixed bag of valuable metaphysics and nonsensical charlatans would be better off spending an hour wandering around West Hollywood’s wonderful Bodhi Tree bookstore--which carries videos as well as books. Information on this tape: (213) 393-4405.
