DEL MAR — Fioravanti, ridden by Bill Shoemaker, set the pace and fought off a late charge to win the $43,000 feature race on the turf by three-quarters of a length Thursday at Del Mar.
Uptothehilt, ridden by Gary Stevens, challenged the winner in the drive but finished second, 2 3/4 lengths in front of Hall Of Arts and Aaron Gryder in a field of 10.
Fioravanti covered a mile in 1:36 3/5 and earned $23,650. The winner paid $5.80, $4.60 and $3.80; Uptothehilt returned $5 and $4.
