Conrad on the Palestinians

The Conrad cartoon (“A Palestinian a day keeps the PLO away,” July 24) is anti-Jewish in its implication. It seems to imply that there is a purposeful plan by Israel to kill Palestinians in order to keep the PLO away.

The cartoon ignores the reality of Palestinian provocations in street riots or their anti-Semitic statements planned to cause a reaction by Israeli troops. The reaction is then termed an Israeli provocation.

Conrad’s cartoon ignores the realities of the situation in Israel. Israeli troops are charged with keeping the peace and the Palestinians seek to discredit that function by staging uprisings. The cartoon misstates the situation by depicting a regular, purposeful murder of Palestinian youths to discourage these uprisings.

The cartoon does a disservice to your newspaper and its readers.
