On the Campaign Trail With Republican George Bush
Vice President George Bush has some nerve trying to claim the issue of child care now (Part I, July 25). Alice Travis was absolutely correct in your story: “Where was George” when funding for child care declined 28% under President Reagan? Where was he when families such as mine were clamoring for more government support for child care a few years ago? Where was he on the campaign trail last year when other candidates first raised the issue, and when dozens of bills were before Congress?
To bring the issue up now just looks like a desperate attempt to gain some points in the polls. It’s too late, George.
