LOMPOC — One inmate at the Lompoc Federal Penitentiary was stabbed to death and another injured Friday in a knife attack, a prison spokesman said.
A 43-year-old inmate from Texas, admitted to Lompoc in June to begin serving an eight-year sentence for counterfeiting, was placed in detention for investigation of the 6:05 a.m. attack, said spokesman Chuck LaRoe. The motive was undetermined.
It was the second inmate death in an attack at the prison this year, he said. Another man was killed in February.
The names of those involved were withheld pending notification of relatives and further investigation of the case, LaRoe said.
