Pop Nuptials

You can always expect the unexpected from a Jonathan Demme sound track--and the director’s upcoming comedy, “Married to the Mob,” offers a host of new pop surprises, handpicked by Demme himself. Gems include “Suspicion of Love” by Chris Isaak (who has a bit part in the film), “Time Bums” by Ziggy Marley, “Jump in the River” by Sinead O’Connor, “Liar Liar” by Deborah Harry (just released as a single) “Too Far Gone” by the Feelies, “You Don’t Miss Your Water” by Brian Eno and a new mix of “Bizarre Love Triangle” by New Order. The only bad news is that there are no plans, as of yet, to release David Byrne’s score for the film--or include the film’s ditzy opening number, Rosemary Clooney’s “Mambo Italiano,” in the sound track. . . . It’s nice to see that the Irving Azoff-David Geffen feud hasn’t completely died down yet. As you might remember, Elton John just left Geffen Records for the Azoff-run MCA Records. So guess where MCA has bought billboard space touting Elton’s “Reg Strikes Back” album? Right above Geffen Records. Azoff refused to comment--but an MCA spokesman called it “an interesting coincidence.” . . . Deirdre O’Donahue’s new “Breakfast With Brian Wilson & the Beach Boys” radio show, which airs each Sunday at 11 a.m. on KLSX-FM will have a special live guest this morning--Brian Wilson himself. He’ll talk about his new album--and past glories. . . . And forget those rumors that KTWV-FM (The Wave) is going Top 40 this summer. General manager Allen Chlowitz insists that “there will be absolutely no change in the format through the end of the year.”
