Zut Alors! Quelle Car

The July 14 story on the Citroen 2CV, or Deux Chevaux, was a charmer (“So Long . . . Hello . . . Deux Chevaux”). Obviously anyone traveling Europe has seen many of these sturdy vehicles. As they are not known for their beauty, there is a cult that refers to the cars as “Ugly Ducklings.” In fact, the cult has grown to such stature that many well-cared-for Deux Chevaux sport big, yellow duckling cartoon decals on their doors.

As engine designs decrease in weight and increase in horsepower, cars with bodies like the “ugly duckling” are likely to become more common.
