A disabled persons’ rights group picketed the Hollywood Pacific Theater, now showing the George Romero film “Monkey Shines,” on Saturday, asking audiences to boycott the film that they say contains a “vicious stereotype” of disabled people. The half-dozen members of ADAPT, a nationwide disabled rights group, also called on the film’s distributor, Orion Pictures, to withdraw the movie. Demonstrator Bill Bolte said the film, which features a disabled protagonist who employs his monkey helper in a series of murders, “is not a realistic portrayal--it’s a vicious stereotype.”
