DEL MAR — Precisionist, under Chris McCarron, broke well from the post and held off Candi’s Gold to win the $48,000 feature race by 4 lengths Monday at Del Mar.
Candi’s Gold, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, finished second, 2 1/2 lengths in front of Red Attack in a field of five.
Precisionist, a 7-year-old, covered the mile over a fast track in 1:33 1/5 and earned $26,400 for the victory in the race for 3-year-olds and up. The time betters by two-fifths of a second the track record for the mile recorded by Pirate Cove on July 27, 1963.
Precisionist, carrying 114 pounds, paid $3.60, $2.40 and $2.10. Candi’s Gold returned $2.40 and $2.10, and Red Attack paid $2.20.
