An oil company executive says his company’s removal of diesel trucks from major traffic arteries during rush hour will save the company 24,000 gallons of fuel a year and remove nine tons of pollutants from Southland skies.

Wally J. Fassler, regional vice president of Chevron U.S.A., said in Los Angeles that the company began the practice in June to ease traffic congestion and that 60 tanker-trailers now avoid freeways and major highways during morning and afternoon peak hours.
