President Reagan is expected to announce the resignation today of Treasury Secretary James A. Baker III so he can take over as campaign manager for Vice President George Bush, White House sources told United Press International. Reagan aides were alerted to be prepared for the announcement “any time now,” but probably after the stock markets close. The sources said that Reagan would name New York investment banker Nicholas Brady, a close friend of Bush, to succeed Baker. Brady reportedly would be in line to remain in the Cabinet if Bush wins. Baker’s departure from the Treasury had been expected.
