Share

Orange County Supervisor Thomas F. Riley, who represents the 5th District in south Orange County, will receive an award Sunday for his efforts to expand development of parks and recreation.

The presentation will be made by the National Assn. of County Park and Recreation Officials at a banquet at the Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club in Corona del Mar.

Parker Hancock of the county’s Harbors, Beaches and Parks Department said that under Riley’s leadership, park and open-space land in the 5th District has grown from 6,849 acres in 1974 to 22,000 acres now.

Riley is the target of a recall drive mounted by critics of his votes in favor of development agreements. The agreements protect developers’ projects from future changes in the county’s land-use and zoning policies in exchange for financial help in building new roads and other public facilities.
