Traffic at UCI

Share

I’d appreciate it if you took a moment to consider what I see as a problem on our campus. As a student at UC Irvine, I have been jumping out of the way of electric carts, maintenance vehicles, delivery trucks, construction equipment, and bicycles for a long time now. I become angry when I see some of the UCI vehicles tearing around, and I wonder how the operators are able to get away with their dangerous driving habits.

The intersection at Berkeley and Pereira is also hazardous. Apparently some of the drivers coming down the hill on Berkeley (heading north, toward Campus Drive) have trouble noticing the stop signs at the intersection. It’s easy to pick up speed descending this slope, and I think that by the time the drivers see the stop signs it’s too late.

I’ve waited too long to write this letter. I’m tired of my dangerous adventures at this intersection and on the campus. Although summer is here and the traffic will be lighter for the time being, we must prepare for the coming year. At the very least we should install a warning signal for those drivers coming down the hill on Berkeley. There should also be an investigation into campus safety in general.
