Local News in Brief : City Halts Arbitration With Cable TV Firm

Share

The City Council on Tuesday cancelled arbitration proceedings with the cable television company that serves 30,000 customers and set a public hearing for Aug. 30 to hear complaints against the firm.

The city was seeking to slash subscriber rates by 25% after frequent complaints that MultiVision Cable TV Corp. was not promptly returning customer calls about service. Under arbitration, the firm could have been forced to accept the rate cut.

MultiVision, which has an exclusive franchise to serve Anaheim, has not been meeting its agreement to respond to an average of 98% of customer calls within two minutes, according to city officials.

The basic monthly rate doubled this year to $19.95 and the total bill can be as high as $100 with optional services.
