Switzer Denies Allegations in Bosworth Book

Barry Switzer, Oklahoma football coach, is denying allegations made by former Sooner linebacker Brian Bosworth that some teammates free-based cocaine on game days and that steroids were as commonplace as aspirin in the Sooner locker room.

Of Bosworth’s assertions, made in his book entitled, “The Boz: Confessions of a Modern Anti-Hero,” Switzer told the Oklahoma City Oklahoman: “Obviously I don’t believe it. There’s no way I can believe it.

“I’ve got to believe in our testing program and in our medical staff. We’re no different from any program in the country in that we deal with the problems that exist. But there are very few problems.”

Switzer said that of 130 players, Oklahoma had 3 who tested positive for steroids and added: “So, obviously, the problem is not as he suggested.”

Of Bosworth, Switzer said: “Oklahoma has been playing football for 100 years and Oklahoma will play football for another 100 years. The book hurts both of us, but we’ll play football longer than Brian Bosworth will.”
