Culver City : Day-Care Home Rules Changed

Share

The Culver City Council on Monday streamlined requirements for licensing day-care homes.

The new requirements affect day-care homes that care for six to 12 children. The council lowered the application fee from $519 to $200, trimmed the application form from 18 pages to five, and dropped the requirement for an off-street parking space that does not block the applicant’s driveway.

But the council kept intact a requirement that day-care providers notify neighbors within a 300-foot radius of their homes when they apply for licenses.

Day-care providers argued that this requirement was inconvenient and jeopardized the children’s safety by advertising the day-care home to strangers.

But the council decided that these concerns were outweighed by the neighbors’ right to know about businesses operating in residential neighborhoods.
