An Orange County Jail inmate died at UCI Medical Center on Thursday after life-support systems were removed.

Enrique Ibarra, 35, of Santa Ana died at 2:40 p.m. in the presence of his family, Orange County Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson said Thursday.

Ibarra had been transferred from the central men’s jail to the hospital on July 27, when he suffered a seizure. He was placed on life-support systems Wednesday when his condition worsened, Olson said.

Ibarra was arrested by Santa Ana police July 2 on suspicion of petty theft and vehicle tampering, Olson said.

An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the cause of death. The Orange County district attorney’s office is investigating the death.

Ibarra was the second Orange County Jail inmate to die this week.

Robert Jimenez Orozco, 28, of La Puente was discovered dead in his cell Tuesday. A preliminary autopsy showed no signs of trauma or foul play, and toxicological tests have been ordered to determine the exact cause of death. The tests take about four to six weeks, Olson said.

Inmates in the jail said Orozco complained of being severely ill Monday night and had asked for medication but that his requests were ignored. The Sheriff’s Department declined to comment on those allegations.
