Local News in Brief : Garden Grove : Councilman Must Go to Trial to Change Name

Share

City Councilman Robert F. Dinsen will have to go through a court trial in order to make “Taxfighter” his name, according to a ruling Thursday.

Dinsen, 71, appeared before Commissioner Julee Robinson in Orange County Probate Court for what he had expected would be a brief hearing on his request to change his name to Robert Frank “Taxfighter Bob” Dinsen. But the request was contested by Robert Rubenstein, a Garden Grove man who claims Dinsen is making a mockery of the election process. Rubenstein asked to present arguments against the request, so a non-jury trial was scheduled Oct. 10.

Dinsen, who is running for mayor in the November general election, said he wanted to change his name to reflect his many years of fighting against tax increases in the city. According to Dinsen, he was not required by law to go to probate court to legally change his name. He said he went through the process so that his new name would be on public record.
