The FBI arrested a former researcher at Amgen, a biotechnology company in Thousand Oaks, for allegedly trying to sell corporate data to one of Amgen’s main competitors, Genetics Institute of Cambridge, Mass. John Stephen Wilson, 34, was arrested Thursday night in a Ventura restaurant by two FBI agents posing as Genetics Institute representatives. The FBI alleged that Wilson offered to exchange the data for 10,000 shares of Genetics Institute stock or $150,000. Wilson was charged with federal interstate transportation of stolen property, and on Friday a U.S. magistrate set his bail at $15,000. If convicted, Wilson could face up to 10 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine. Efforts to reach Wilson on Friday were unsuccessful.
