Local News in Brief : San Clemente : Mecham and Limberg Won’t Seek Reelection

Share

Two longtime San Clemente City Council members, William C. Mecham and Robert D. Limberg, will not seek reelection in November.

Both men were elected to consecutive four-year terms in 1980 and 1984. Limberg said it was “with mixed feelings” that he decided Friday not to run again.

Mecham had announced his decision not to run on Wednesday.

Both had served on the Planning Commission before becoming councilmen.

A city spokesman said about a dozen other persons are holding nomination papers for the two council seats and will have until 5 p.m. Friday to file them. The filing deadline had been last Friday but was extended for one week in accordance with state codes because incumbents had declined to run.
