Savings on Car Rental

Some airlines are offering special rental car deals in Europe and the Middle East.

Delta Airlines, in conjunction with the Kemwel Group, is providing a free rental car for a week in Europe. You also get unlimited mileage.

The offer is based on two people traveling together round trip on Delta to Europe. The free rental car is available in London, Shannon, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich or Stuttgart. Rentals must begin and end in the same city or there will be a drop-off charge.

Reservations for the rental car must be made through Kemwel at least seven days before departure from the United States. While the car is free, you still have to pay the value-added tax (VAT), which ranges from 10% to 28% depending on the country. However, the offer includes some complimentary collision damage waiver features.

Iberia and Kemwel are also cooperating on a similar offer of one week’s free use of a rental car in Spain. Again, two passengers have to fly round trip on a Spanish airline to Spain, and travel together using the car.

Cars are available in Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Las Palmas, Santiago de Compostela, Torremolinos, Palma de Majorca, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Alicante, Seville, Lanzarote and Valencia. There is unlimited mileage. With this program you can pick up the car in one city and leave it at another with no drop-off charge.

This program also excludes the VAT (12%) in Spain or any insurance/collision damage waiver aspects. Reservations have to made at least seven days in advance with Kemwel.

Both the Delta and Iberia offers are good until Oct. 31. The free car offer, however, doesn’t apply if you’re flying on a bulk fare seat. Contact travel agents or Delta toll-free at (800) 221-1212, Iberia at (800) 221-9741 or Kemwel at (800) 678-0678.

Meanwhile, Royal Jordanian is offering its passengers a 25% discount, excluding insurance, at Budget Rent A Car outlets in Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. This discount is available to solo travelers.

Car rental reservations have to be made at least 48 hours before departure from the United States, through either the airline or Budget. You have to show your airline boarding pass to receive the discount.
