‘Is Spanish Wrong Signal?’

Share

How strange that Chavez’s only interpretation of Dukakis’ demonstrated ability to speak fluent Spanish (in addition to English, Greek and some French) is a negative one. She expresses concern that Latinos who don’t speak English will feel less motivated to learn the language because of Dukakis. This paranoid conclusion goes against all common sense.

Far from being afraid of such a man, we have good cause to be elated, realizing that at long last our nation may be represented by both a bilingual President and vice president. What examples these two men are for all those who speak only their mother tongue. I’d be proud, as I’m sure most Americans would be, to have leaders who could communicate in more than one language.

Chavez does our country no favors. Dukakis does.
