Local News in Brief : Irvine : College Open House Set for Printed Circuit Lab

Share

Irvine Valley College is holding an open house from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at its new printed circuit laboratory.

Printed circuit boards are units that go into planes, televisions, computers or other electronic-controlled equipment. “They are somewhat like batteries, but more sophisticated than that,” said Clella Wood, acting dean of business at the community college.

The new laboratory, at 5500 Irvine Center Drive, is where community college students get experience working with printed circuits and learning the technology of this booming business, she said.

“The availability of training for the printed circuit industry is severely limited,” said Shari Frank, a consultant for the college.

To fill this need, Irvine Valley College eight years ago launched a teaching program in printed circuit technology. The lab opening this fall culminates a long drive to have a better training site for the students, college officials said.

Persons thinking of a career change or seeking a high-demand field of employment are especially invited to the free open house, college officials said.
