The World : 2 Die as Israeli Jets Collide
Two Israeli F-15 jet fighters collided and crashed during a training flight over the Dead Sea area, and both pilots were killed, the military announced. It said the air force has appointed a commission to investigate the crash. The victims were identified as Maj. Ehud Falk of the northern kibbutz of Merhavya and Lt. Col. Ram Kuller of the kibbutz of Kfar Giladi. It was the first known accident with the U.S.-built Eagle suffered by the Israeli air force. News of the crash was withheld for about 12 hours--strict censorship often delays release of information on incidents considered to involve national security. Israel has about 50 of the $30-million warplanes, built by McDonnell Douglas Corp.
