Local News in Brief : Plan for Venice Bike Path Gets Opposition

Share

A new bicycle path has been proposal for the southern edge of Venice Beach, but the project is drawing protests from area residents.

The proposal for a 1 1/2-mile bike path from Venice Boulevard to Washington Street is before officials drafting a local coastal plan for Venice. Those who favor the path say bicyclists should have access to the beachfront area known as the Marina Peninsula. But opponents say that the path, which would not connect with the main beach bicycle route that extends from Pacific Palisades to Torrance, would disrupt the serene atmosphere of the area.
