New York’s a Jungle!

Tarzan is swinging back into view. This time he’ll hit the streets of NYC, where Jane is . . . a cabbie!

“Tarzan in Manhattan”--a TV movie-pilot--marks the apeman’s return to the small screen. (Ron Ely loinclothed the last “Tarzan” series.)

This premise: Tarzan journeys to NYC to rescue Cheetah--who’s been chimp-naped for use in animal experimentation.

He comes upon feisty Jane--and her security guard dad, Archie--and they team up.

The script’s approved by Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc.--which handles the rights to the late author’s works. This, according to co-exec producer Max A. Keller. (His credits include HBO’s “Conspiracy Trial of the Chicago 8” and the CBS movie, “Women of Valor.”)

Keller said Tarzan will be “a warm, vulnerable hero,” with, added a casting rep, “a great bod.” (Said Keller, a talent search is under way. Among the spots being scouted: gyms!)

So will that great bod be prominently on view?

Said Keller: “Our Tarzan is very intelligent. He knows that you should wear clothes when you’re doing something like traveling on an airplane or going through customs. So he’s civilized. But. . . . “

But? “From time to time, when the situation is right, he’ll also have his loincloth.”

Negotiations for the series are under way with CBS.
