Local News in Brief : El Toro : Condo Fire Victim’s Body Is Identified
A 38-year-old Buena Park man was identified Monday as one of two people killed in a condominium fire last weekend, authorities said.
Orange County coroner’s investigators identified the man who died in the fire early Saturday as Edward Petrus.
The other victim is believed to be a 28-year-old woman from Santa Ana, but investigators were still seeking dental records to positively identify the body, a coroner’s spokesman said.
The man and woman, who were house guests of the owners, were trapped in an upstairs bedroom by the fire, which broke out in the kitchen, fire officials said. Investigators have said the cause of the blaze was a hot object in a kitchen trash can.
“(Investigators) are not being specific because it could have been anything from cigarettes to grease,” said Kathleen Cha, spokeswoman for the Orange County Fire Department.
Rosemary Rich, 32, owner and resident of the condominium with her husband, Marshall, was in fair condition Monday at UCI Medical Center in Orange with second- and third-degree burns over 60% of her body and a fractured right knee.
